So, I'm absolutely in love with mythology and Hades & Persephone have always been a couple of my favorite "characters." Of course, following the story of the dreaded duo to the T would not be a reasonable thing to even attempt to do, but I think that it could at least be a good basis for a plotline.
Basically, Persephone (daughter of Zeus) was abducted by Hades (Zeus's brother) while picking flowers with the blessing of Zeus since Persephone's mother would not agree to the union. Persephone had been a lively, innocent v-word prior to the abduction. After her abduction, she became the ever-feared queen of the underworld. Even with this, though, she had the capacity for mercy and had great maternal feelings (So much that she stole a baby, but I'm really not sure about that with this plot). She was faithful to Hades and made sure that Hades was faithful to her by sabotaging any straying he attempted, which seems to suggest that Persephone came to love Hades. Persephone was bound to Hades because she ate food -- a pomegranate seed.
So, on to Hades, King of the Underworld and God of Death. He's a tricky, manipulative, greedy man. His companion is a three-headed dog, Cerebrus. He's more passive than evil, as the stories go, but he does what he must to get what he wants -- and he always gets what he wants. He does have a terrible wrath for those who cross him. Hades is definitely a character to be feared; some even fear uttering his name. It is suggested that Hades lived a double life and was possibly, in fact, Dionysus, a god of fertility.
I could see a plot based loosely on this being quite dynamic and fun to play out. If anyone's interested in throwing around some ideas and doing something like this, let me know!
